What To Do In A Plumbing Emergency

Main Water Shutoff: Your First Step in a Plumbing Emergency

In the case of substantial leaks and frozen pipes, turn off the water to the affected water line to minimize water loss and damage. If necessary, locate the main shut off valve and shut down the water to the entire house to stop the flow. Avoid using any water in the residence if your main sewer line is clogged and backing up. Pipes that are frozen and substantial leaks need to be addressed quickly because they can lead to water backing up into your home which can cause damage to the overall structure.

Clogged drains will prevent you from using the water in your home until the drain is cleared, and we understand that you cannot wait to have these plumbing issues addressed quickly. In these situations, it’s important to act quickly, and our team is qualified at making fast and effective decisions that will preserve the integrity and quality of your home.

Should I call For Emergency Plumbing Repairs Or Do I Wait?

If you get home and you have a pool of water on the floor, then it’s pretty obvious that you have a plumbing emergency and need to get an experienced plumber to your house quickly. However, leaking faucets and clogged toilets are annoying and sometimes recurring problems. Without repairs or inspections, these small-plumbing annoyances can be indicative of a much more serious problem that can lead to an emergency plumbing situation. Listed below are some other reasons that you should probably get an experienced emergency plumber in Airdrie or Calgary to your house for immediate service:

  • You’re Not Getting Any Water: Low temperatures can freeze exposed or poorly insulated piping, leading to clogging and even water pipe damage. If you aren’t able to get water in your house, especially when it’s cold, call a plumber immediately to investigate the problem. Frozen and burst water pipes are relatively common during the colder months.

  • All Of The Drains In The Home Are Blocked: One isolated clogged drain in a house can be annoying, but it’s usually an easy to fix won’t really impact other parts of your house. On the other hand, if several drains are clogging in your home all at once then have a bigger problem that should be dealt with quickly. If this is occurring in your home then you’re probably dealing with a major clog, located deeper in your plumbing or possibly outside of your home. To resolve a plumbing backed-up this significant, it will take an experienced plumber to trace the clogging to its source and quickly resolve the issue.

  • You Have A Large Clog That You Can’t Clear With A Household Plunger: Most of the time when your sink or toilet is clogged, you can use a household toilet plunger to unclog it. However, these tools don’t always get the clog out and we strongly recommend not to pour hazardous, destructive liquid drain cleaning products down your plumping pipes. If you can’t seem to clear a clog then it could be a sign of a more serious plumbing problem, or perhaps it’s just a tough clog that an experienced plumber will know how to fix.

  • Your Water Pressure Has Considerably Decreased: Low water pressure can be a clear indication of some obstruction or leaking in your plumbing that needs to be taken care of right away. Low water pressure can also be a result from a leak or other issue in the main water supply. If you noticed low water pressure in multiple areas of your home then it’s time to call a plumber to investigate the problem.
