Protecting Homes From Water Damage in Airdrie, Calgary & Area

Is your basement excessively damp? Does it flood in the spring? Basements that are prone to flooding can really benefit from sump pumps. Designed to pull up excess water, sump pumps are a great addition to any property. Your new sump pump won’t just prevent flood damage in your home, it will also stop mold from growing in your basement and protect the foundation from damage.

Sump Pump Benefits Include:

  • During heavy rain, or in the event of a pipe bursting open, they can help prevent flood and water damage.
  • They can mitigate the threat of mold by keeping the area dry and free of dampness.
  • They can actually reduce the risk of an electrical fire starting because a common cause of electric fires is flooding.

If you already own a sump pump, then you know all the great benefits they have to offer. But did you know that you can’t just install a sump pump and forget about it? Signs You Need Sump Pump Repair Or Replacement

Strange noises such as churning, whirring or grinding coming from the sump pump can indicate that some type of foreign substance got stuck inside the pump. Another indicator that your sump may need to be serviced or replaced is a strong odor, which could signal some backed-up material. If you see rising water in the pump, it may have stopped working altogether.

Every sump pump will need to be replaced eventually, regardless if you purchase a top-of-the-line model or not. As technology advances, sump pumps have improved as well. If you installed a sump pump a long time ago, it may be time to replace it. Newer sump pumps may be able to protect your basement more thoroughly and efficiently because they need less power than older models.

Repairs can be avoided with regular maintenance from a knowledgeable professional. A plumber can spot potential issues and resolve them before they turn into serious and costly problems. If you’re having issues with your sump pump, call us at the first sign of trouble. It’s better to be safe than deal with a flooded basement.

How To Test Your Sump Pump

It is recommended that you test your sump pump at least once a year to make sure it is working properly. To do this, take a large bucket of water to the basement and carefully pour it into the sump pump pit. When the sump pump float rises to the top, it should turn the sump pump on and start removing the water that has accumulated in the pit. Check for any leaks in the discharge pipe and make sure the majority of the water is pumped out. A few inches at the bottom of the sump pump pit is normal.

DO I REALLY NEED A SUMP PUMP?

What To Expect With A Sump Pump Installation

Although most sump pumps are installed when a house is first being built, we can install a sump pump at any time to protect your home from flooding and water damage. During the installation process:

  • We will determine the best location for the pump by assessing factors such as slope, grade of the piping, electrical wiring, and the property layout.

  • Once the location in determined we then have to construct a sump pit or basin, which involves digging out a small section of concrete.

  • After the pit in made we can then install the sump pump, making sure it is straight within the basin and connect all the hoses.

  • We will wire it safely into your electrical supply, ensure it is working properly and then install the cover to protect the pump. Before leaving, we will ensure everything is cleaned up and removed from the area.
